A Greener Alternative was established by two heating engineers with over 30 years’ experience in designing and installing heating systems. They formed A Greener Alternative 10 years ago in Sussex, with the ambition to provide ecological heating that doesn’t cost the earth. Both directors had seen the advantages of using renewable solutions to heat properties, especially in rural settings without access to the gas main supply. Over the past ten years, A Greener Alternative have invested in training in Austria and Italy to utilise the expertise of biomass, heat pump and solar thermal manufacturers in mainland Europe.

This certification scheme provides an ongoing, independent, third party assessment of Installers of Microgeneration systems and technologies to ensure that the requirements of the appropriate standards are met and maintained.
HETAS which is the official body recognised by government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services. HETAS operates a registration scheme for heating engineers with special skills in the installation and maintenance of solid fuel heating systems – particularly wood-burning (Biomass) systems.
The Solar Trade Association (STA) which serves as an enquiry centre for the public, industry and governmental bodies. It provides information to enhance the general understanding of the advantages derived from solar energy.
OFTEC which establishes the standards for competence within the domestic oil heating and cooking industry. By ensuring the quality of people and businesses working in this area, OFTEC maintains standards for reputable companies and consumers alike.
GAS SAFE register which is the official gas registration body for the United Kingdom, Isle of Man and Guernsey, appointed by the relevant Health and Safety Authority for each area. By law all gas engineers must be on the Gas Safe Register.
